The municipalities of Upper Vinschgau have the largest number of mountain pastures in Tyrol. These farms produce butter and medium-fat cheese. At the transhumance of the livestock in autumn, farmers receive butter and cheese in accordance with the amount of milk they have produced.
Fragges near Stilfs is the point of departure of one of the most beautiful mountain walks in central Vinschgau. In approx. 1 ½ hours you can get to the Stilfser Alm (2064m) on foot. From here you can either continue on to the wonderful ’Chavalatsch’ with its magnificent view, or go on along a narrow mountain path in the direction of Prader Alm. The sight of the mountain Ortler is breathtaking!
Both Stilfser Alm and Prader Alm are intact working quarters. You can also see pig sties, manure pits there, or take a walk along the irrigation canals.
